“Keep it Simple and Straight Forward”

In our technologically impersonal world, seemingly simple matters can become unnecessarily complicated.  Restaurants, for example, have become complicated.  Fine dining at any national fast food establishment with a drive through window is no longer just a matter of ordering burgers and fries.  Now, one must weigh through the options which include value meals in small, medium, large, super-size and extra super-size varieties.  Or, one can opt for a kid's meal.  Someone can attempt to figure out what it all might cost from the dollar menu.  If someone is a "senior", one has the extra complication of doing all the math off the "senior" menu.

Some people seem like to complicate things, it seems.

It becomes refreshing to read about the simple clarity that young people might offer us older folks.

Recently, I read an article which extolled the talent children have in keeping the truth simple and straightforward.  I find the truth told by young children is both astute and clear.  Here’s a sample that is sure to make you smile:

  • Patrick, age 10:  “Never trust a dog to watch your food”.  I can only guess that Patrick must have found out the hard way, eh?

  • Michael, age 14:  “When your Father is upset with you and asks you ‘Do I look like I was born yesterday?’ it’s best to keep quiet.”  Michael is wiser than his years.

  • How about Randy, age 9:  “I learned to stay away from prunes.”.  Naturally, we may wonder how Randy learned this lesson.

  • Naomi, age 11, offers some real horse sense:  “If you want a dog, it’s best to start out by asking for a horse”.

  • At the age of only 9, Lauren has already developed some fashion sense:  “You shouldn't use permanent felt magic markers as lipstick”.

  • Eileen, age 8, may say it best:  “Never try to baptize a cat.  Baptism is for people!”.

Simple, straightforward, uncomplicated, to the point, with no misunderstanding.
